History

The Labradoodle comes from two parent breeds: the Poodle and a Labrador Retriever.

This crossbreed appeared in the late 80s, and it quickly became a popular dog breed. Although it was originally bred by the Royal Guide Dog Association of Australia on a quest to create a hypoallergenic alternative for people seeking guide dogs, the Labradoodle makes for an excellent household dog.

Labradoodle Temperament & Size

As with most crossbreeds, it is quite difficult to consistently predict temperamental characteristics of puppies, or other things such as consistent size or fur type. However, there are some traits in their appearance and character that seem to occur frequently. They normally have a low-shedding coat with either a fleece-like or wooly consistency.

Their temperament is likely to be friendly, energetic and positive. They seem to love swimming and playing in the water, as both Labradors and Poodles are known for their great swimming skills.

Labradoodle Life Span & Health Problems

Labradoodles have a lifespan of approximatively 12 to 14 years.

These dogs could suffer from issues that are common in their parent breeds, Labradors, and Poodles. For instance, they are prone to hip dysplasia or elbow dysplasia, as well as hypothyroidism, which can be treated.
